Close Battle Against Quad City Ends With Loss for Tucson Sugar Skulls
Tucson, AZ – The Tucson Sugar Skulls fought hard on the road, but ultimately fell short against the Quad City Steamwheelers, 40-38. Despite impressive plays by Tucson, a last-minute safety ultimately proved costly in the game’s final moments.
Both teams entered the matchup hoping to snap their losing streaks, and opened the game with urgency as they prepared to fight for a chance at redemption. Tucson capitalized first, with Defensive Back Brandon Mackey scoring a rushing touchdown.
Quad City responded with two touchdowns, setting the stage for a back-and-forth offensive battle between the teams. Tucson’s defense did not stand by, working hard to challenge Quad City’s offense and limit scoring. The first half ended with Quad City leading by a narrow margin, the score at 28-21.

Defensive Back Zachariah Twardosky snagged an incredible interception, boosting Tucson’s momentum. The third quarter ended with Tucson trailing close behind Quad City at 35-31.

Tucson took possession in the last seconds of the game, but a safety provided Quad City with 2 points, bringing the finalscore to 40-38.
