Sugar Skulls Crush Chupacabras in Tucson Showdown
Right from kickoff, Tucson came out with urgency. The Sugar Skulls wasted no time establishing control, marching down the field with precision and punching in early scores.
Midway through the second quarter, Tucson had built a commanding 28–6 lead, fueled by explosive offensive drives and a defense that kept New Mexico contained. The Chupacabras struggled to find rhythm early, facing pressure and limited opportunities.
But out of the break, it was a completely different story. New Mexico flipped the script.
The Chupacabras tightened up defensively and started to find openings offensively, putting together sustained drives and capitalizing on Tucson mistakes. What once looked like a runaway quickly turned into a one-possession game.
The energy shifted, the crowd got tense, and momentum was firmly on New Mexico’s side heading into the final minutes.
With the game on the line, New Mexico had a chance to complete the comeback. Driving down the field in the closing moments, they looked poised to either tie or take the lead.
But Tucson’s defense delivered when it mattered most. A clutch late interception shut the door on the comeback attempt, sending the Sugar Skulls’ sideline into celebration and sealing the victory.
A tale of two halves in this one, dominance early by Tucson, resilience late from New Mexico, but in the end, it’s the Tucson Sugar Skulls who hold on for the win.
