Tucson Sugar Skulls Aim for Second Victory Against Rival Arizona Rattlers

Tucson, AZ – The Tucson Sugar Skulls continue on the road this week as they face off against the Arizona Rattlers. Kickoff is set for 6 PM MST on Saturday, July 11.

Tucson enters the matchup looking to regroup following last week’s tough loss to the Northern Arizona Wranglers. Despite the outcome, Tucson continues to show growth and consistent improvement on the field. On Sunday, June 28, the Sugar Skulls traveled to Prescott to face in-state rivals the Northern Arizona Wranglers. The game proved to be disappointing for the Skulls, as Tucson fell to Northern Arizona, 51-49.

The first quarter saw the Wranglers in the lead, 21-16. Tucson fought to regain the lead in the second quarter with two touchdowns, and the Skulls ended the first half leading by 3 points, the score 29-27.

The third quarter was low scoring, as both teams fought for the lead but struggled to secure points. Tucson landed a touchdown, but Northern Arizona responded with one of their own. Tucson narrowly held the lead at the end of the third quarter, 35-34. The final quarter was detrimental for Tucson as Northern Arizona snuck into the lead. Tucson opened the fourth quarter with two touchdowns, but Northern Arizona clawed into the lead with a field goal, two touchdowns, and a deuce. The game ended with the Wranglers victorious, 51-49.

Previous Meeting

This is the third matchup between Tucson and Arizona this season. The two teams last met in the Boneyard, where the Rattlers fell to the Skulls, 35-28. Tucson is coming off a bye week and is prepared to take on the Rattlers after regrouping and refining its strategy.
